Vaiśampāyana said: “When the Kali Yuga has run its course and is exhausted, the Kṛta (Satya) Yuga begins again. Thus is proclaimed the cycle of the four ages, known as the ‘twelve-thousand’ (divine-year) yuga.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Time is cyclical: after the moral and spiritual decline of Kali Yuga reaches completion, renewal occurs with the return of Kṛta/Satya Yuga. The verse frames ethical history as recurring phases rather than a one-way decline.
Vaiśampāyana is explaining the doctrine of the yugas, stating that when Kali Yuga is exhausted, Kṛta Yuga begins again, and that the four-age cycle is traditionally quantified as a ‘twelve-thousand’ measure in divine years.
