Brāhmaṇa-māhātmya: Tārkṣya’s instruction on tapas, satya, and svadharma
Chapter 182
ते तु सर्वे द्विजश्रेष्ठाःपाण्डवानां हितेप्सया | मैवमित्यब्रुवन् भीम॑ गर्हयन्तो5स्य साहसम्,तब पाण्डवोंके हितकी इच्छासे वे सभी श्रेष्ठ ब्राह्मण भीमसेनको उनके दुःसाहसकी निन्दा करते हुए बोले--'अब कभी ऐसा न करना'
te tu sarve dvijaśreṣṭhāḥ pāṇḍavānāṃ hitepsayā | maivam ity abruvan bhīmaṃ garhayanto 'sya sāhasam ||
Then all those foremost Brahmins, desiring the welfare of the Pāṇḍavas, addressed Bhīma; reproaching his rash audacity, they said, “Do not ever act like this again.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when motivated by loyalty, reckless daring (sāhasa) is blameworthy; elders and Brahmins uphold dharma by restraining impulsive action and urging conduct that truly protects the community’s welfare.
Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates that the assembled Brahmins, concerned for the Pāṇḍavas’ good, admonish Bhīma and explicitly forbid him from repeating a rash act, censuring his audacity as harmful despite any good intention.
