Bhīmasena’s Himalayan Hunt and Seizure by the Ajagara (भीमसेनस्य अजगरग्रहणम्)

diṣṭyā ca bhagavān sthāṇur devyā saha parantapa | sākṣād dṛṣṭaḥ svayuddhena toṣitaś ca tvayānagha ||

Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Fortune indeed attends you, O scorcher of foes: you have beheld the Blessed Lord Sthāṇu (Śiva) directly, together with the Goddess. And, O sinless one, you have pleased him by your own prowess in battle. This is the highest auspiciousness—divine favor won not by arrogance, but by disciplined valor and reverent devotion.”

Educational Q&A

True auspiciousness is divine grace earned through disciplined effort and reverent devotion: even martial excellence becomes ethically meaningful when it is aligned with humility and dharma, culminating in the Lord’s satisfaction rather than mere personal glory.

Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Arjuna, celebrating his extraordinary fortune: Arjuna has directly seen Śiva (Sthāṇu) together with Pārvatī and has pleased Śiva through his own combat prowess—an allusion to the Kirāta encounter where Śiva tests and then blesses him.
