Arjuna’s Arrival and Reunion on the Sacred Mountain
न ग्लानिर्न च कातर्य न वैक्लव्यं न मत्सर: । कदाचिज्जुषते पार्थमात्मजं मातरिश्वन:,वायु-पुत्र कुन्तीकुमार भीमसेनको कभी ग्लानि, कातरता, व्याकुलता और मत्सरता आदि भाव नहीं छूते थे
na glānir na ca kātaryaṁ na vaiklavyaṁ na matsaraḥ | kadācij juṣate pārtham ātmajaṁ mātariśvanaḥ ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: In Pārtha’s son—Bhīma, born of Mātariśvan (Vāyu)—there was never any trace of dejection, cowardice, faint-hearted wavering, or envy. Such weakening emotions did not at any time take hold of him, marking him as steadfast in spirit and unshaken in resolve.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse praises an ideal heroic temperament: inner steadiness free from dejection, fear, wavering, and envy. Ethically, it upholds self-control and resilience as virtues that sustain dharma and effective action.
Vaiśaṃpāyana is describing the innate disposition of Pārtha’s son identified as Vāyu’s offspring (commonly understood as Bhīma): he is portrayed as naturally fearless, unwavering, and free from jealous rivalry.
