Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Thus, in the sacred Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Vana Parva, in the Tīrthayātrā Parva—during Lomāśa’s pilgrimage narrative—this chapter concerning the entry into Gandhamādana, the one hundred and forty-third, is concluded. This colophon marks a turning point in the holy travel account, framing the journey as a dharmic act of purification and disciplined striving rather than mere wandering.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
This is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: it frames pilgrimage (tīrthayātrā) as a dharmic discipline—structured, purposeful movement through sacred space—signaling that spiritual merit arises from intention, restraint, and reverence, not from travel alone.
The narrator Vaiśaṃpāyana closes Adhyāya 143 of the Vana Parva, within the Tīrthayātrā Parva, marking the end of the episode/theme concerning entry into Gandhamādana as part of Lomāśa’s pilgrimage account.
