As a colophon, the verse’s function is to frame learning as a guided journey: the Mahābhārata embeds ethical instruction within tīrtha-yātrā and exemplary sub-stories (upākhyānas). The closure reminds the reader that dharma is transmitted through remembered narratives and sacred contexts, not only through heroic action.
The text is marking the completion of a chapter: the 134th chapter of the Aṣṭāvakra-related episode within the Tīrthayātrā section of the Vana Parva, presented in the setting of Lomāśa’s pilgrimage narration.
