Ṛśyaśṛṅga’s Luring, Rainfall at Aṅga, and Reconciliation with Vibhāṇḍaka (ऋश्यशृङ्गोपाख्यानम्)

sa pūjitastena nararṣabheṇa dadarśa putraṁ divi devaṁ yathendram | śāntāṁ snuṣāṁ caiva dadarśa tatra saudāmanīm uccarantīṁ yathaiva ||

Honoured by that bull among men, the sage beheld his son shining with splendour, like Indra among the gods in heaven. There too he saw his daughter-in-law Śāntā, radiant and flashing like a streak of lightning.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the dharmic principle that sincere honour and proper reception of a sage (pūjā) yields tangible auspicious results—splendour, prosperity, and harmony—seen here in the radiant wellbeing of the son and the auspicious presence of Śāntā.

After being honoured by King Lomapāda, the sage Vibhāṇḍaka beholds his son Ṛśyaśṛṅga appearing divinely splendid like Indra in heaven, and he also sees Ṛśyaśṛṅga’s wife Śāntā shining like lightning, emphasizing the king’s successful, auspicious outcome in bringing the sage’s family into his realm.
