Adhyāya 112: Ṛṣyaśṛṅga’s Description of an Exemplary Brahmacārī

Ascetic Presence and Vow-Practice

These are the variegated, fragrant garlands that he himself had carefully strung with silken cords. After scattering them here, that radiant ascetic—shining with the power of his austerities—departed to his own hermitage.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the moral force of tapas (disciplined austerity): true spiritual authority is shown through restraint and returning to one’s proper dharmic place, not through possession or display.

The speaker points out the fragrant, colorful garlands that the ascetic had made by stringing them with silken cords; after scattering them there, he departed, radiant with austerity, back to his hermitage.
