मैत्रेयागमनम् — The Arrival of Maitreya and the Admonition to Duryodhana

अथ तां राक्षसीं मायामुत्थितां घोरदर्शनाम्‌ । रक्षोघ्नैविविधैर्मन्त्रैधौम्य: सम्यक्प्रयोजितै:

atha tāṁ rākṣasīṁ māyām utthitāṁ ghoradarśanām | rakṣoghnaiḥ vividhair mantraiḥ dhaumyaḥ samyak prayojitaiḥ ||

Then that terrifying, dreadful-looking rākṣasī-illusion arose; and Dhaumya, having properly employed various mantras that destroy rākṣasas, countered it effectively—showing how disciplined sacred knowledge is used to protect dharma against deceptive, harmful forces.

Educational Q&A

Harmful deception (māyā) is met not by panic but by disciplined, properly applied sacred knowledge; the verse highlights right method (samyak) and protective action in service of dharma.

A dreadful rākṣasī-like magical illusion manifests, and Dhaumya responds by correctly applying various rākṣasa-destroying mantras to neutralize the threat.
