मैत्रेयागमनम् — The Arrival of Maitreya and the Admonition to Duryodhana
अथ तां राक्षसीं मायामुत्थितां घोरदर्शनाम् । रक्षोघ्नैविविधैर्मन्त्रैधौम्य: सम्यक्प्रयोजितै:
atha tāṁ rākṣasīṁ māyām utthitāṁ ghoradarśanām | rakṣoghnaiḥ vividhair mantraiḥ dhaumyaḥ samyak prayojitaiḥ ||
Then that terrifying, dreadful-looking rākṣasī-illusion arose; and Dhaumya, having properly employed various mantras that destroy rākṣasas, countered it effectively—showing how disciplined sacred knowledge is used to protect dharma against deceptive, harmful forces.
विदुर उवाच
Harmful deception (māyā) is met not by panic but by disciplined, properly applied sacred knowledge; the verse highlights right method (samyak) and protective action in service of dharma.
A dreadful rākṣasī-like magical illusion manifests, and Dhaumya responds by correctly applying various rākṣasa-destroying mantras to neutralize the threat.
