(Sagara-Upākhyāna): Śiva’s boon and the extraordinary birth of Sagara’s progeny

Hearing these words of the gods, the eminent sage Agastya went to the mountain. Approaching the Vindhya, he—accompanied by his wife—stood before it and addressed it in this manner.

The verse highlights that disciplined spiritual power and truthful speech, aligned with dharma, can curb arrogance and protect balance in the world; even mighty forces (symbolized by a mountain) are expected to submit to rightful moral authority.
After hearing the gods’ request or message, the sage Agastya travels to the Vindhya mountain with his wife Lopāmudrā, approaches it, and prepares to address it—setting up the well-known episode in which the Vindhya is restrained.
