समुद्रपानम् (Samudra-pānam) — Maitrāvaruṇi Drains the Ocean; Devas Seek a Means to Refill It
हक कक विष्णुना समुदाह्तम् । अगस्त्यस्याश्रमं ययु:
hak kak viṣṇunā samudāhṛtam | agastyasyāśramaṃ yayuḥ
Thus, in the manner proclaimed by Viṣṇu, they proceeded to the hermitage of Agastya—moving forward in accordance with the divine injunction and toward the counsel of a revered sage.
लोगश उवाच
Dharma is strengthened by heeding authoritative guidance—divine injunction and the wisdom of sages—rather than acting from impulse; seeking a sage’s āśrama signifies turning toward disciplined counsel and ethical clarity.
After a statement attributed to Viṣṇu, the group sets out and goes to the hermitage of the sage Agastya, indicating a transition from hearing an authoritative pronouncement to undertaking a purposeful journey for guidance.
