Surabhi–Indra Dialogue as a Governance Exemplar
yadi tv aham anugrāhyaḥ kauravyeṣu dayā yadi | anvaśādhi durātmānaṃ putra duryodhanaṃ mama ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “If I am worthy of your favor, and if you have compassion for the Kaurava house, then please instruct and restrain my wicked-minded son Duryodhana.”
Moral authority and compassion should be used to correct wrongdoing within one’s own family; unchecked vice in a leader (here, Duryodhana) endangers the entire lineage.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra appeals to an elder/counsellor figure, asking that Duryodhana be admonished and guided, framing the request as an act of favor to him and mercy to the Kaurava house.
