Kaṇva said: “Among all the Ādityas, Viṣṇu alone is the eternal one—unconquerable and undecaying, ever-abiding, the all-powerful Lord and supreme ruler.”
कण्व उवाच
The verse teaches that among the Ādityas the ultimate, singular source of enduring authority is Viṣṇu—defined by invincibility (ajayya), imperishability (avyaya), and eternal lordship (śāśvata prabhu īśvara). Ethically, it frames legitimate power as rooted in the timeless divine order rather than transient human dominance.
Kaṇva is making a doctrinal assertion within the Udyoga Parva context, emphasizing Viṣṇu’s supreme status among the Ādityas. Such a declaration functions to orient listeners toward the highest divine principle while events move toward conflict, reminding that cosmic governance and dharma stand above political struggle.
