Then, in haste, he urged the attendants to bring seats, declaring that these sages—pure in inner disposition—must be honored without delay. Seeing the sages, Bhīṣma, the son of Śāntanu, quickly commanded the royal officials stationed at the hall’s entrance: “Hey! Bring seats!” Thereupon, well-polished, large, and spacious seats were brought.

Educational Q&A

Prompt and sincere honoring of spiritually accomplished guests is a mark of dharma: purity of the guests’ inner disposition (antaḥkaraṇa) calls for immediate respectful reception (pūjā), expressed through appropriate hospitality such as offering seats.

As sages arrive at the assembly, Bhīṣma notices them and urgently orders attendants and officials at the hall entrance to bring seats; large, polished seats are then arranged to receive the sages with due honor.
