Kṛṣṇa’s Counsel to Dhṛtarāṣṭra in the Assembly
tato duryodhanaḥ kṛṣṇaṃ śakuniścāpi saubalaḥ | dvitīyena rathenainam anvayātāṃ paraṃtapam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Then Duryodhana, and also Śakuni the son of Subala, followed after Kṛṣṇa—the scorcher of foes—riding in a second chariot.
Even before open conflict, adharma often expresses itself as surveillance, manipulation, and mistrust of righteous counsel; the verse highlights how political fear tracks dharmic influence closely, anticipating its power to shape outcomes.
After Kṛṣṇa proceeds onward, Duryodhana and Śakuni set out behind him in another chariot, effectively tailing him—an action consistent with their anxious, strategic posture during the tense pre-war negotiations.
