Kṛṣṇa at Duryodhana’s House: Refusal of Hospitality and Departure to Vidura (कृष्णस्य धार्तराष्ट्रनिवेशनगमनम्)
स्त्रीधर्मिणीं द्रौपदीं यच्छवशुराणां समीपगाम्,“क्रोध और लोभके वशीभूत हुए दुष्ट दुर्योधनने रजस्वलावस्थामें एकवस्त्रधारिणी द्रौपदीको सभामें बुलवाया और उसे श्वशुरजनोंके समीप खड़ी कर दिया। उस समय सभी कौरवोंने उसे देखा था
strīdharmiṇīṃ draupadīṃ yacchvaśurāṇāṃ samīpagām | krodha-lobha-vaśībhūto duṣṭo duryodhano rajasvalāvasthāyām ekavastradharāṃ draupadīṃ sabhāṃ āhvayām āsa, tāṃ ca śvaśurajanānāṃ samīpe sthāpayām āsa | tadā sarvaiḥ kauravaiḥ sā dṛṣṭābhavat ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Overpowered by anger and greed, the wicked Duryodhana summoned Draupadī—who was in her menstrual period and clad in a single garment—into the royal assembly and made her stand near her elders by marriage (her fathers-in-law). At that time, all the Kauravas looked upon her. The passage underscores a grave ethical violation: the public humiliation of a woman, especially in a vulnerable state, as an act of power and cruelty that deepens the moral collapse leading toward war.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Unchecked anger and greed lead to adharma: the powerful may violate social and moral boundaries, but such cruelty—especially the public shaming of a vulnerable person—accelerates collective downfall and makes conflict inevitable.
Duryodhana, driven by rage and avarice, calls Draupadī into the court while she is in a vulnerable condition and forces her to stand before her marital elders; the Kauravas witness her humiliation, marking a severe breach of dharma.
