Then Śalya, the mighty-armed, having met the sons of Pāṇḍu, accepted—according to proper custom—the ceremonial water for washing the feet, the respectful offering (arghya), and also a cow. The scene underscores the binding force of hospitality and ritual propriety, by which relationships and obligations are formally acknowledged.
शल्य उवाच
The verse highlights dharma expressed as proper hospitality and ritual decorum: honoring a guest with prescribed offerings creates and confirms social bonds and obligations, and accepting them signifies recognition of that relationship.
Śalya meets the Pāṇḍavas and, following customary procedure, receives the guest-honoring items—pādya, arghya, and a cow—marking a formal, ritually sanctioned reception.
