Sainyasaṅgraha and Bhāga-Vyavasthā (Forces Assembled and Rival Allocations) | सैन्यसंग्रह-भागव्यवस्था
अर्जुनस्य तु भागेन कर्णो वैकर्तनो मत: । अश्रत्थामा विकर्णक्ष सैन्धवश्न जयद्रथ:,वैकर्तन कर्ण, अश्वत्थामा, विकर्ण और सिंधुराज जयद्रथ--ये सब अर्जुनके हिस्सेमें पड़े हैं
arjunasya tu bhāgena karṇo vaikartano mataḥ | aśvatthāmā vikarṇaś ca saindhavaś ca jayadrathaḥ ||
Sanjaya said: “As for Arjuna’s allotted share in this war, it is understood to be Karṇa (son of the charioteer), along with Aśvatthāmā, Vikarṇa, and Jayadratha of Sindhu.”
संजय उवाच
Even within a vast collective war, dharma is often faced through specific, personal confrontations. The verse underscores responsibility: Arjuna’s duty is not abstract but embodied in named adversaries, making ethical resolve concrete.
Sañjaya enumerates the principal warriors who are regarded as falling to Arjuna’s ‘portion’—the key opponents he is expected to engage and overcome: Karṇa, Aśvatthāmā, Vikarṇa, and Jayadratha of Sindhu.
