Duryodhana’s Reassurance and Force-Praise to Dhritarashtra
indraprasthasya cādūrāt samājam mum mahārathāḥ | vyagarhayaṃś ca saṅgamya bhavantaṃ kurubhiḥ saha ||
Not far from Indraprastha, the great chariot-warriors assembled. Gathering together, they began to censure you—along with the Kauravas.
The verse highlights how collective opinion and public censure can intensify hostility: moral judgment (who is blameworthy) becomes a political weapon, shaping alliances and pushing parties toward confrontation rather than reconciliation.
Duryodhana reports that near Indraprastha the leading warriors gathered in an assembly and, after meeting together, began criticizing the addressed person, doing so in association with the Kauravas—signaling rising tensions and coordinated condemnation.
