Nara-Nārāyaṇa Precedent and Bhīṣma’s Counsel on Kṛṣṇa–Arjuna; Karṇa’s Reply

teṣāṁ manaś ca tejaś ca apādadan iva ojasā | pūrvadevā vyatikrāntau nara-nārāyaṇāv ṛṣī ||

Vaiśampāyana said: By the sheer force of their spiritual energy, those two ancient divine sages, Nara and Nārāyaṇa, seemed to carry away the minds and splendor of all present. Passing across that place, they went on—overawing the assembly with a radiance that humbled ordinary pride and recalled the higher law that stands above worldly power.
