Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 34 — Vidura’s Counsel on Deliberation, Speech-Discipline, and Dharmic Kingship

नष्टप्रज्ञ: पापमेव नित्यमारभते नर: । पुण्यं प्रज्ञां वर्धयति क्रियमाणं पुन: पुन:,जिसकी बुद्धि नष्ट हो जाती है, वह मनुष्य सदा पाप ही करता रहता है। इसी प्रकार बारंबार किया हुआ पुण्य बुद्धिको बढ़ाता है

naṣṭaprajñaḥ pāpam eva nityam ārabhate naraḥ | puṇyaṃ prajñāṃ vardhayati kriyamāṇaṃ punaḥ punaḥ ||

Vidura says: When a man’s discernment is ruined, he continually sets himself to sinful acts alone. In the same way, merit repeatedly performed increases one’s wisdom again and again.
