Drupada’s Alarm and Inquiry Regarding Śikhaṇḍinī (द्रुपदस्य भय-विमर्शः)

O great king! For this reason Sthūṇākarṇa does not appear before you today. Having heard this, do what you deem proper. Let your vimāna remain here today. Then the lord of the Yakṣas said, “Bring Sthūṇa (Sthūṇākarṇa) here.” Again and again he declared, “I shall restrain and punish him.”

Educational Q&A

Authority must uphold order: when someone evades rightful summons, the ruler (or guardian of a community) is obliged to apply appropriate restraint (nigraha) to protect dharma, doing so in a measured and proper manner.

The Yakṣa-lord orders that Sthūṇa/Sthūṇākarṇa be brought before him and repeatedly asserts that he will punish or restrain him, indicating the seriousness of the offense and the intent to enforce compliance.
