Drupada’s Alarm and Inquiry Regarding Śikhaṇḍinī (द्रुपदस्य भय-विमर्शः)

pūjitaś ca pratiyayau nirbhartsya tanayāṃ kila | vinītakilviṣe prīte hemavaramaṇi pārthive | pratiyāte daśārṇe tu hṛṣṭarūpā śikhaṇḍinī |

Having been duly honoured, he set out to return, after (it is said) reproaching his own daughter for having sent a false report. When the king Hemavarman of Daśārṇa—his offence removed and his mind appeased—departed in a pleased state, Śikhaṇḍinī too became greatly delighted.

Educational Q&A

Deception used to manage political or personal outcomes invites censure even within one’s own family; when blame is removed and goodwill is restored, harmony returns. The verse highlights accountability, truthfulness, and the ethical value of reconciliation.

After being honoured, the concerned party departs, having rebuked his daughter for sending a false report. King Hemavarman of Daśārṇa leaves in a pleased state once his grievance is settled, and Śikhaṇḍinī feels great joy at this favourable turn.
