Bhishma and Rama: Restraint and Withdrawal in the Engagement

Bhīṣma said: “Auspicious one, everything will happen exactly as I have stated. You will first be born in the form of a maiden; then, after the turning of some time, you will become a man.”
The verse emphasizes the inevitability of what has been truthfully foretold and the power of Kāla (time) to bring about profound transformations, including changes in social identity and embodied form.
Bhīṣma addresses a woman as “kalyāṇi” and confirms that his earlier statement will be fulfilled: she will be born as a girl first and, after some time, will become a man—framing the event as a destined outcome brought about by the turning of time.
