अम्बा-शाल्वसंवादः | Amba’s Appeal to Śālva and His Refusal
तस्य दारक्रियां तात चिकीर्षुरहमप्युत । अनुरूपादिव कुलादित्येव च मनो दथे,तात! तब मैंने अपने योग्य कुलसे कन्या लाकर उनका विवाह करनेका निश्चय किया
tasya dārakriyāṃ tāta cikīrṣur aham apy uta | anurūpād iva kulād ity eva ca mano dadhe, tāta ||
My child, wishing to perform his marriage rites, I resolved in my mind to bring him a bride from a family truly suitable to him.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights a guardian’s dharma: to ensure proper marital rites and to seek an appropriate match, emphasizing responsibility, suitability (anurūpatā), and thoughtful resolve rather than impulsive action.
Bhīṣma narrates that he formed the intention to arrange a marriage for him (the concerned prince/ward), deciding to bring a bride from a fitting lineage, indicating the start of marriage negotiations/arrangements.
