भीष्मकृतः पाण्डवपक्ष-महारथ-प्रशंसा

न हाहं त्वद्य विक्रम्प स्थविरोडपि शिशोस्तव । युद्धश्रद्धामहं छिन्द्यां जीवितस्य च सूतज,सूतकुमार! यदि ऐसी बात न होती तो मैं वृद्ध होनेपर भी पराक्रम करके आज तुझ बालककी युद्ध-विषयक श्रद्धा और जीवनकी आशाका एक ही साथ उच्छेद कर डालता

na hāhaṃ tv adya vikramya sthaviro 'pi śiśos tava | yuddhaśraddhām ahaṃ chindyāṃ jīvitasya ca sūtaja ||

Bhīṣma said: “No—if it were not for this restraint, then even though I am old, I would exert my full prowess today and, O son of a charioteer, cut down at once both your childish confidence in battle and your hope of life.”
