Vaiśampāyana said: “With that purpose in mind, he went out from the assembly and, standing together with Hārdikya (Kṛtavarman), addressed him—urging him to quickly ready his troops, don his armor himself, and remain stationed at the doorway of the assembly hall with the army drawn up in battle formation.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical tension between deliberation and coercion: when conflict escalates, leaders often shift from dialogue to militarized readiness. It implicitly warns how quickly political disputes can harden into armed standoffs, making restraint and foresight crucial.

After deciding on a countermeasure, a principal actor leaves the assembly and coordinates with Hārdikya (Kṛtavarman), instructing him to prepare the troops, put on armor, arrange the army in formation, and hold position at the assembly hall’s entrance—signaling imminent confrontation and heightened security.
