Vaiśampāyana said: “In the same way, seize Duryodhana, Karṇa, and Śakuni the son of Subala, and also bind Duḥśāsana; then hand them over to the Pāṇḍavas.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes curbing wrongdoing by restraining the principal agents of injustice and making them answerable, suggesting that peace and dharma are better served by targeted accountability than by allowing a whole society to be dragged into war.
Within the Udyoga Parva’s negotiations and counsels before the great war, a directive is voiced to capture and bind key Kaurava figures—Duryodhana, Karṇa, Śakuni, and Duḥśāsana—and deliver them to the Pāṇḍavas, presenting a drastic measure aimed at preventing escalation.
