Śāṇḍilī–Suparṇa Saṃvāda
Conduct, Intention, and Restoration
nārada uvāca evaṃ bahu ca dīnaṃ ca bruvāṇaṃ gālavaṃ tadā | pratyuvāca vrajann eva prahasan vinatātmajaḥ ||
Narada said: As the sage Galava spoke many words in a pitiable, humbled manner, Vinata’s son Garuda, even while continuing on his way, replied with a smile.
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights an ethical contrast: Galava’s distressed humility and Garuda’s composed, even smiling response. It suggests that power should be exercised with steadiness and without harshness, and that a petitioner’s desperation is met best with calm discernment rather than contempt.
Narada narrates a moment where Galava speaks at length in a dejected tone. Garuda, identified as Vinata’s son, answers him while still moving onward, smiling—indicating confidence and control, and setting the tone for what Garuda will say next.
