Gālava’s Despair and Resolve to Seek Viṣṇu

Though Viśvāmitra repeatedly told him, “Go, go,” Gālava kept replying again and again with insistent humility: “What shall I give you?”—seeking a fitting guru’s fee and refusing to depart without acknowledging the debt of service and instruction.

A student should not treat learning as a transaction, yet should recognize moral indebtedness: gratitude and responsibility prompt Gālava to seek an appropriate guru-dakṣiṇā, even when the teacher permits him to leave.
Nārada narrates that Viśvāmitra repeatedly dismisses Gālava with “Go, go,” but Gālava persists in asking what he can give in return—signaling his resolve to honor his teacher through a fitting offering.
