Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that a disciple’s śuśrūṣā (attentive service) and bhakti (devotion) are ethical disciplines that cultivate humility and trust, leading the teacher to become pleased and ready to instruct or bless.

Nārada narrates that the sage Viśvāmitra, satisfied with his ascetic disciple Gālava’s devoted service, addresses him—setting up the next instruction or request within the episode.
