Vaiśampāyana said: Yudhiṣṭhira, endowed with faith and victory, entered the royal palace, like the mansion of Indra; and upon arriving there he dismounted from his chariot. Then, entering the inner chambers, the illustrious king approached the family deities and worshipped them in every way with jewels, fragrant unguents such as sandal, and garlands.

Educational Q&A

Royal authority and prosperity are to be anchored in dharma: the king first honors the divine and ancestral religious order (kula-devatāḥ) with reverent worship, expressing humility, gratitude, and a sense of duty before enjoying or exercising power.

After entering the inner part of the palace, Yudhiṣṭhira approaches the household deities and performs worship using jewels, fragrant substances, and garlands, marking a ritually proper and ethically grounded arrival into royal residence.
