न हि देवा न गन्धर्वा नासुरा न च पन्नगा: । प्रभवन्तीह भूतानां प्राप्तानामुत्तमां गतिम्
na hi devā na gandharvā nāsurā na ca pannagāḥ | prabhavantīha bhūtānāṃ prāptānām uttamāṃ gatim ||
Sūrya said: “Neither the gods, nor the Gandharvas, nor the Asuras, nor even the serpent-beings have any power here to obstruct those living beings who have attained the highest state. When one reaches that supreme goal through right conduct and inner realization, no celestial or non-celestial order can hinder that consummation.”
सूर्य उवाच
The verse teaches the inviolability of the highest spiritual attainment: once a being has reached the supreme state (uttamā gati), no class of powerful beings—divine, semi-divine, demonic, or nāga—can prevent or overturn that fulfillment.
Sūrya is speaking within the Shānti Parva’s instruction-oriented setting, emphasizing a doctrinal point: spiritual culmination is beyond external interference, even from exalted cosmic beings.
