अध्याय ३५१ — उञ्छवृत्ति-व्रतसिद्धेः मानुषस्य परमगतिः
Sūrya–Nāga Dialogue on the Perfected Gleaner-Ascetic
“किंतु दैत्य, दानव, गन्धर्व और राक्षसोंसे व्याप्त हुई यह तपस्विनी पृथ्वी भारसे पीड़ित हो गयी है ।। बहवो बलिन: पृथ्व्यां दैत्यदानवराक्षसा: । भविष्यन्ति तपोयुक्ता वरान् प्राप्स्यन्ति चोत्तमान्,“इस पृथ्वीपर बहुत-से ऐसे बलवान् दैत्य, दानव और राक्षस होंगे, जो तपस्यामें प्रवृत्त हो उत्तमोत्तम वर प्राप्त करेंगे
vaiśampāyana uvāca | kintu daitya-dānava-gandharva-rākṣasaiḥ vyāptā iyaṃ tapasvinī pṛthivī bhāreṇa pīḍitā bhaviṣyati | bahavo balinaḥ pṛthivyāṃ daitya-dānava-rākṣasā bhaviṣyanti tapo-yuktā varān prāpsyanti cottamān |
Vaiśampāyana said: “But this ascetic Earth, pervaded by Daityas, Dānavas, Gandharvas, and Rākṣasas, will become oppressed by the weight of their presence. Many powerful Daityas, Dānavas, and Rākṣasas will arise upon the earth; devoted to austerities, they will obtain the highest boons.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Tapas and spiritual discipline can generate immense power (boons), but without dharmic restraint that power can intensify harm. The verse highlights that the moral quality of intention and conduct—not merely ascetic achievement—determines whether power supports or burdens the world.
Vaiśampāyana describes a future (or general) condition in which the Earth becomes overrun by powerful non-human beings—Daityas, Dānavas, Gandharvas, and Rākṣasas. Many of them undertake austerities and gain superior boons, and their accumulated might becomes a ‘burden’ upon the Earth.
