Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)
जैसे छींका दूध, दही आदिको धारण करता है, उसी प्रकार ब्राह्मणोंकी बुद्धि, वाक्य, कर्म, श्रद्धा, तप और वचनामृत पृथ्वी और स्वर्गको धारण करते हैं ।। नास्ति सत्यात् परो धर्मो नास्ति मातृसमो गुरु: । ब्राह्मणेभ्य: परं नास्ति प्रेत्य चेह च भूतये,सत्यसे बढ़कर दूसरा धर्म नहीं है। माताके समान दूसरा कोई गुरु नहीं है तथा ब्राह्मणोंसे बढ़कर इहलोक और परलोकमें कल्याण करनेवाला और कोई नहीं है
arjuna uvāca | yathā chīṅkā dugdha-dadhi-ādikaṃ dhārayati tathā brāhmaṇānāṃ buddhiḥ vāk karma śraddhā tapaḥ ca vacanāmṛtaṃ ca pṛthivīṃ svargaṃ ca dhārayanti || nāsti satyāt paro dharmo nāsti mātṛ-samo guruḥ | brāhmaṇebhyaḥ paraṃ nāsti pretya ceha ca bhūtaye ||
Arjuna said: “Just as a vessel holds milk, curd, and the like, so do the intellect, speech, conduct, faith, austerity, and nectar-like words of the Brahmins uphold both the earth and heaven. There is no dharma higher than truth; there is no teacher equal to one’s mother; and there is none superior to the Brahmins for bringing welfare—here in this world and after death in the next.”
