Atithi-prāpti and the Brāhmaṇa’s Deliberation on Triadic Dharma (अतिथिप्राप्तिः धर्मत्रयविचारश्च)
एष वै यस्त्वया पृष्टस्तेन तेषां प्रकीर्तित: । ततः श्रुतो मया चापि तवाख्येयोडद्य भारत
eṣa vai yastvayā pṛṣṭas tena teṣāṃ prakīrtitaḥ | tataḥ śruto mayā cāpi tavākhyeyo ’dya bhārata ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “This is indeed the very matter you asked about; it has been set forth in that connection. I too heard it thereafter, and today, O Bhārata, I shall recount it to you.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes reliable transmission: the speaker will recount what was previously taught and personally heard, grounding the teaching in an authoritative lineage rather than mere opinion.
Vaiśampāyana responds to the king’s inquiry by stating that the topic has already been explained in its proper context and that he will now narrate it as he himself heard it earlier.
