धर्मस्य बहुद्वारत्वम् — Nārada’s Audience with Indra (Śānti-parva 340)

कथं स न विजानीयात्‌ प्रभावममितौजस: । भगवान्‌ ब्रह्मा तो उन्हीं नारायणसे प्रकट हुए हैं। फिर वे उन महातेजस्वी नारायणका प्रभाव कैसे नहीं जानते होंगे? ।। ११४ $ ।। भीष्म उवाच महाकल्पसहस्राणि महाकल्पशतानि च,भीष्मजीने कहा--राजेन्द्र! अबतक सैकड़ों और हजारों महाकल्प बीत चुके हैं, कितने ही सर्ग और प्रलय समाप्त हो चुके हैं। सर्गके आरम्भमें ब्रह्माजी ही प्रजावर्गके सृष्टिकर्ता माने गये हैं

kathaṁ sa na vijānīyāt prabhāvam amitaujasaḥ | bhagavān brahmā tu tebhyo nārāyaṇād eva prakaṭo bhavati | atha sa mahātejaso nārāyaṇasya prabhāvaṁ kathaṁ na jānīyāt ||

Bhishma said: “How could he fail to know the majesty of the immeasurably powerful One? For even the blessed Brahmā is manifested from that very Nārāyaṇa. Therefore, how could anyone not recognize the greatness and sovereign power of that supremely radiant Nārāyaṇa? The point is ethical as well as theological: true understanding begins with acknowledging the highest source, and humility before that source is itself a form of dharma.”
