Bhīṣma said: Absorbing his self in the Supreme through yoga, steadfastly devoted to the discipline and law of yoga, he performed sustained austerities with concentrated resolve, O best of the Kurus, seeking the blessing of a son.

Yoga is presented as an ethical discipline (yogadharma) requiring steadiness (dhāraṇā) and inner absorption, and it can be directed toward legitimate life-goals when pursued with restraint and right intention rather than ego or display.
Bhīṣma describes a figure undertaking concentrated austerities, immersing the mind in the Supreme through yoga, with the specific purpose of obtaining a son—linking spiritual practice to a dharmic household aspiration.
