Nārada at Badarīāśrama: the ultimate referent of daiva and pitṛ worship
tad etat sampradṛśyaiva karma-bhūmiṁ prapaśyataḥ | śubhāny ācaritavyāni paralokam abhīpsatā ||
Recognizing this world as the field of action and keeping one’s gaze fixed upon it in that light, a person who longs for the worlds beyond should practice only auspicious deeds. For it is here—on this earth of karma—that one shapes the moral causes whose fruits are reaped in the next life.
This human world is the decisive arena for karma; therefore, anyone seeking a good destiny beyond this life should deliberately cultivate only śubha (wholesome, meritorious) actions here.
Vyāsa states a reflective instruction typical of the Śānti Parva: by understanding earthly life as karma-bhūmi (the field where deeds are sown), one should choose righteous conduct to secure favorable results in the next world.
