देवतापितृप्रश्नः — Nārada at Badarīāśrama: the ultimate referent of daiva and pitṛ worship
न मातृपुत्रबान्धवा न संस्तुतः प्रियो जन: । अनुव्रजन्ति संकटे व्रजन्तमेकपातिनम्,जीव जब अकेला ही परलोकके पथपर प्रस्थान करता है, उस संकटके समय माता, पुत्र, भाई-बन्धु तथा अन्यान्य प्रशंसित प्रियजन भी उसके साथ नहीं जाते हैं
na mātṛ-putra-bāndhavā na saṁstutaḥ priyo janaḥ | anuvrajanti saṅkaṭe vrajantaṁ eka-pātinam ||
Vyāsa said: “In the hour of crisis, neither mother nor son nor kinsmen—nor even those dear people who are praised and celebrated—follow a person who sets out alone on the road beyond. The teaching is that death and the passage to the next world must be faced individually; therefore one should rely on one’s own dharma and inner discipline rather than on worldly attachments.”
