Vyāsa says: A person who is intensely greedy, who delights in pleasing falsehood, who is constantly devoted to deceit and cheating, and who by various contrivances causes suffering to others—such a sinner, because of his evil deeds, goes to the most dreadful hell and there experiences extreme misery.
व्यास उवाच
Greed, love of falsehood, and habitual deception that harms others are grave adharma; such conduct ripens into severe suffering, described as falling into dreadful hell and experiencing intense misery.
In the didactic discourse of the Śānti Parva, Vyāsa states a moral consequence: he characterizes a deceitful, harm-causing person and declares the karmic result—torment in the most terrible niraya (hell).
