Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
कालवर्षी च पर्जन्य: सस्यानि समपादयत् । नित्यं सुभिक्षमेवासीद् रामे राज्यं प्रशासति
kālavarṣī ca parjanyaḥ sasyāni samapādayat | nityaṃ subhikṣam evāsīd rāme rājyaṃ praśāsati ||
The rains fell in their proper season, and Parjanya, the rain-god, brought the crops to full fruition. While Rāma governed the kingdom, there was ever abundance and prosperity—an image of righteous rule in which nature itself upholds the people’s welfare.
वायुदेव उवाच
Righteous governance (rājadharma) is portrayed as harmonizing society with the natural and cosmic order: when a king rules justly, rains come in season, crops flourish, and the people enjoy steady abundance.
Vāyudeva describes an ideal reign: during Rāma’s administration, Parjanya sends timely rains, agriculture succeeds, and the kingdom experiences continual prosperity (subhikṣa).
