Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
यो बद्ध्वा त्रिशतं चाश्वान् देवेभ्यो यमुनामनु । सरस्वती विंशतिं च गड्ामनु चतुर्दश,“उन महातेजस्वी दुष्यन्तकुमार भरतने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंकी प्रसन्नताके लिये यमुनाके तटपर तीन सौ, सरस्वतीके तटपर बीस और गंगाके तटपर चौदह घोड़े बाँधकर उतने-उतने अश्वमेध यज्ञ किये थे।* उन्होंने अपने जीवनमें एक सहस्र अश्वमेध और सौ राजसूय यज्ञ सम्पन्न किये थे
yo baddhvā triśataṃ cāśvān devebhyo yamunām anu | sarasvatīṃ viṃśatiṃ ca gaṅgām anu caturdaśa ||
Vāyu said: “He who, for the satisfaction of the gods, once bound three hundred horses on the bank of the Yamunā, twenty on the bank of the Sarasvatī, and fourteen on the bank of the Gaṅgā—that mighty, radiant Bharata, son of Duṣyanta, performed so many Aśvamedha sacrifices. In his life he is remembered as having completed a thousand Aśvamedhas and a hundred Rājasūyas.”
