Yudhiṣṭhira said: “For what reason did he increase the splendor and power of those mighty Daṇavas? For the Daṇavas are ever bound to enmity with the best of the gods.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse frames an ethical doubt: empowering those who are habitually hostile to the righteous (here, the gods) seems contrary to sustaining order. It invites reflection on when, why, and under what higher purpose power may be granted even to adversarial forces.
Yudhiṣṭhira asks why a certain agent (implied from the surrounding discourse) enhanced the might of the Daṇavas, despite their perpetual enmity toward the foremost gods—seeking the rationale behind a seemingly paradoxical act.
