Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | tiṣṭhate me sadā tāta kautūhalam idaṃ hṛdi | tad ahaṃ śrotum icchāmi tvattaḥ kuru-pitāmaha ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “O dear revered one, this question—full of wonder—has long remained in my heart. O grandsire of the Kurus, I wish to hear its resolution from you.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse models dharmic learning: a ruler should not suppress doubt but respectfully seek clarification from a qualified elder/teacher, treating ethical understanding as a sustained inner responsibility.
In the Śānti Parva’s instructional setting, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Bhīṣma as the Kurus’ grandsire and asks him to resolve a long-held question, initiating the next teaching episode.
