Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
stutvaivaṁ sa mahādevaṁ virarāma prajāpatiḥ | bhagavān api suprītaḥ punar dakṣam abhāṣata |
Bhishma said: Having thus praised Mahādeva (Śiva), Prajāpati Dakṣa fell silent. Then the Blessed Lord Śiva, greatly pleased, spoke again to Dakṣa.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights a moral-spiritual pattern: sincere praise and reverence (stuti) coupled with restraint and humility (silence after speaking) lead to divine pleasure and a compassionate, guiding reply—suggesting that devotion should culminate in receptivity to instruction.
Dakṣa has completed his praise of Śiva and stops speaking. Śiva, pleased by the hymn, then addresses Dakṣa again, indicating the continuation of their dialogue and the granting of a response or boon-like instruction.
