अध्याय २८१ — दानधर्मः, न्यायागतधनम्, ऋणत्रय-परिशोधनं च
Dāna ethics, lawful wealth, and settling obligations
अथास्य जृम्भत: शक्रस्ततो वज़्मवासृजत् | स वज्र: सुमहातेजा: कालाग्निसदृशोपम:,जँभाई लेते समय ही इन्द्रने उसके ऊपर वज्रका प्रहार किया। वह महातेजस्वी वज्र कालाग्निके समान जान पड़ता था
athāsya jṛmbhataḥ śakrastato vajram avāsṛjat | sa vajraḥ sumahātejāḥ kālāgnisadṛśopamaḥ ||
Bhīṣma said: “Just as he was yawning, Śakra (Indra) then hurled the thunderbolt at him. That thunderbolt, blazing with immense splendor, appeared like the fire of Time itself.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights how overwhelming power—especially when divinely authorized—can strike decisively at a moment of weakness, suggesting an ethical reflection on vigilance, the consequences of lapses, and the role of cosmic order (kāla) in enforcing limits.
Bhīṣma narrates that Indra (Śakra) throws his thunderbolt (vajra) at an opponent precisely while the latter is yawning, and the weapon is described as blazing like the destructive fire of Time (kālāgni).
