Dāna ethics, lawful wealth, and settling obligations

Bhishma said: “This (sin) will quickly depart from you and will take up residence right there (in that other person). Thus, you will attain release from it; this I declare to you as the truth.”
Moral responsibility adheres to the agent of wrongdoing: when a person, deluded by ignorance, commits a sacrilegious act, the resulting sin is said to attach to that perpetrator, while the wronged party is freed from the taint—affirming accountability and the possibility of release (moksha) from imposed impurity.
Bhishma is reporting/affirming a pronouncement that the harmful taint (understood in context as a grave sin) will swiftly leave the addressed group and ‘reside’ in the offender who commits the degrading act, thereby granting the addressed group deliverance from that sin.
