Parāśara’s Counsel on बुद्धि (Discernment), Karma-Consequences, and Avoidance of Pāpānubandha Actions
Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca: yathā caivābhavad yuddhaṃ tac cācakṣva pitāmaha | vistareṇa mahābāho paraṃ kautūhalaṃ hi me ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Grandfather, tell me exactly how that battle took place—describe it in detail, O mighty-armed one. My curiosity to hear it is very great.”
The verse models dharmic learning through respectful inquiry: a ruler seeks clarity from an elder-teacher, asking for a detailed account so that understanding is grounded in careful narration rather than hearsay.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Bhīṣma as ‘Grandfather’ and requests a full, detailed description of a particular battle, stating that he is intensely eager to hear how it unfolded.
