Marks of the Sinful and the Righteous; Dispassion (Nirveda) as a Path to Liberation
Bhīṣma said: “Chirakārika, blessings upon you. May you remain ‘Chirakārī’—one who acts with deliberation—and may you live long. Gentle one, if you continue to be of such a nature for a long time, then for a long time I shall never be distressed.”
The verse praises and blesses the habit of acting with patience and careful deliberation (cirakārī). It implies an ethical ideal: restraint and thoughtful timing in action prevent harm and become a source of lasting peace for oneself and others.
Bhīṣma addresses Chirakārika directly, offering a benediction. He commends Chirakārika’s steady, unhurried disposition and says that if Chirakārika remains true to this nature, Bhīṣma himself will remain free from sorrow for a long time.
